What do the balances in the PDAX app mean?

Total Balance (Home page)

Total Balance and Today’s P&L on the PDAX Home page, labeled 1 and 2

Tap the icon next to Total Balance on the Home page to see this explanation in the app.

1)     Total Balance: The sum of your balances in PHP, crypto, and bonds, including your Bonds.PH by UnionBank bonds, shown in pesos. Investments are valued at current market prices, so your Total Balance can move up or down during the day even if you haven’t made any transactions (see “Why does the value of my bonds change?” below).

2)     Today’s P&L: Your profit or loss for the day, computed as today’s portfolio balance minus yesterday’s portfolio balance.

Balances (Portfolio page)

The Balances list breaks down your Total Balance by type.

Balances list on the Portfolio page, with Bonds labeled 1 and Bonds.PH by UBP rows labeled 2

1)     Bonds: Bonds bought directly on PDAX, PDAX Securities as the broker-dealer

2)     Bonds.PH by UBP (RTB) and (RDB): Your bonds moved from Bonds.PH by UnionBank. Retail Treasury Bonds (RTBs) are shown in pesos; Retail Dollar Bonds (RDBs) are shown in US dollars.

Your Bonds.PH by UnionBank holdings (My Assets)

Each bond you hold shows:

A bond in the Bonds.PH by UBP (RTB) tab, with bond details labeled 1, market value labeled 2, and face value labeled 3

1)     Bond details: The bond name, coupon rate per year, and maturity date.

2)     Market value: What your holding is worth at today’s market price.

3)     Face value: The principal amount of your holding, which is what you receive when the bond matures.

Why does the value of my bonds change?

The market value of your bonds is marked to market: it’s based on today’s market price, not on the amount you invested. Bond prices go up and down with market conditions, such as changes in interest rates, so the market value may be higher or lower than your face value and can change daily. This is why it may differ from the amount you invested or from what you previously saw on Bonds.PH by UnionBank.

Market price changes don’t affect your coupon payments or what you receive at maturity. Coupons are based on your face value and your bond’s fixed coupon rate, and if you hold your bond until it matures, you receive its full face value. The market price matters only if you sell before maturity: your proceeds are based on the market price at the time of sale, less applicable fees.
